End of studies' project
Survey to determine the opinion of three populations; the general population, professionals with orders and students of osteopathy / OD, concerning the establishment of an order and interprofessional collaboration
To complete our studies in osteopathy, we must submit an end of studies project (some schools give the term memory or thesis to this project).
It is a large-scale project that requires several months of work. The goal of this work is to advance the profession by taking a subject according to our choice, to make a hypothesis on this subject and according to the method chosen by the student, he must confirm or refute his hypothesis.
The methods used to demonstrate a hypothesis are numerous, the student can choose to do an experimental research, a literary review, a quantitative or qualitative research, the method is free to his choice and according to the chosen subject. End-of-study projects can be done alone or in teams depending on the scope of the project.
For my project, a student and I formed a duo. Our hypothesis was to know how a professional order would be perceived at the level of osteopathy and if it would be necessary. To do this, we chose to do a qualitative questionnaire.
The said questionnaire was adapted and submitted to 3 different groups, namely professionals with a professional order, students and graduates in osteopathy and finally the general population. For us who are in the field and are aware of the situation in osteopathy, some answers from our respondents have greatly surprised us.
This end-of-studies project was submitted and defended in front of a jury made up of our peers in August 2019, since the situation has changed slightly.
From the end of 2020 to the beginning of 2021, the government to conduct a public consultation on what criteria should define an osteopath. That is to say the training to be acquired, his field of practice as well as the skills he must have in his field. The results of this public consultation are still awaited.
